A life plan
is created with you, and balances today's lifestyle decisions
with tomorrow's financial planning tactics; in the long term it's the
lifestyle decisions that usually have the greatest impact.
Planning
begins with a getting to know you session where we identify:
1)
You
2)
Assumptions about the future
3)
Your values
4)
Your vision
5)
Details about your vision.
Values:
Your most important family values largely determine what you want
in life. Life plans begin by having you prioritize your family values,
these will help in determining your financial direction.
Vision:
Life plans help you clarify your vision of life in four areas: home,
lifestyle, family and career. Life planning recognizes
that your immediate wants are just as important as your long term planning
needs.
Details:
Life planning allows you to attach details to your vision exactly according
to what you want. For example, you can model any number of lifestyle
decisions and determine how each affects the plan both today and in
the future so you can decide for yourself which coarse of action to
take.
If you like
what you see we can proceed with a second session, after filling in
the blanks and making sure the details are accurate we proceed to review
the forecast and create "What If" scenarios until you are
completely satisfied with the final result.
Solutions:
To learn what effective actions you could take, you use advanced life-planning
software from VisionWorks to model and compare "What If?"
scenarios. You can try out lifestyle options and financial planning
tactics to customize your plan based on your values, attitudes and vision.
What's
Next?: I invite you to try the first part of the life planning process
for yourself. We meet for 45 minutes to complete the Values and Vision
exercise and, based on your own experience, you will be able to decide
if a life plan will be of value to you.
